Muñecas de Nicaragua (Nicaraguan Dolls)are handmade dolls, dressed in the typical fashion of a peasant woman. They are a true symbol of the spirit of the Nicaraguan people.
The bright cotton dress and head covering represents the ever present optimism they display regardless of their hardships. Please note these dolls are collector style dolls only and do not comply within the USA codes for fire retardency.
Nicaragua, unlike its close neighbor Costa Rica, has suffered from internal and external conflicts for over 20 years. Beginning with the civil war between 1979 and 1989, difficulties of reconstruction in the economy, to the devastation of Hurricane Mitch in 1998, Nicaragua has had more than her share of hardships. Suffering the most from these hardships are the children.
Thousands of children live on the streets, begging for food and money, sleeping on park benches and in doorways. With your help and the help of Casa Alianza, we can make a difference in some of these childrens' lives. For every doll sold, we will contribute $1.00 US to Casa Alianza to help feed, clothe and shelter these children. For more information about Casa Alianza, please visit http://www.casa-alianza.org
